Engineer Yousef Khamis Al Othmani, Chairman of the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority, has noted that more people are using public transportation during official holidays, especially Eid. This is a great opportunity for people to visit relatives and friends, as well as explore the cities in Sharjah and other emirates during the holiday. To handle the increased number of passengers, the authority is getting ready by planning to increase the capacity of the transportation system. This will help reduce overcrowding and wait times, making sure that everyone can travel comfortably and safely.
The transportation authority is getting the city's buses ready to carry people during the Eid al-Adha holiday. They will have 121 buses available every day out of a total of 484 for the public to use. The authority is working hard to make sure they have enough buses to meet the needs of the public during this busy time.
During public holidays and special occasions, the transportation authority offers special bus schedules to ensure a smooth and consistent flow of buses throughout the day. They have come up with a better plan that reduces the time between bus trips to just 10 minutes during peak times, compared to 45 minutes throughout the rest of the year, on 15 main routes between cities. This means more frequent trips and a higher number of passengers can be accommodated. The authority is also increasing the number of staff overseeing the transport operations to manage the higher demand during the holidays. The special holiday service will start from Jubail station for all routes from 3:45 am until 12:30 midnight during Eid.
Abdulaziz Al Jarwan, the Director of the Authority for Transportation Affairs, has announced the daily provision of trips as part of the franchise management plans and transportation activity licenses. The Authority has formulated a plan to execute 1,144 daily trips using public transportation buses. This initiative aims to ensure convenient and flexible access to public transportation across different regions in the emirate, providing everyone with the opportunity to benefit from it.
He mentioned that the transportation agency has arranged for 110 buses to run daily routes for transporting people during the first and second days of Eid. The buses will operate on 12 different routes, covering 506 stops within Sharjah. This is aimed at providing better transportation services and offering a variety of trip options for people travelling during the official holidays.
The transportation authority has been working on making it easier for people to travel without experiencing crowded stations. They are reducing the time between trips for each route and adding more places to buy tickets. This will help passengers move around more easily and avoid delays at the stations.
Al Jarwan explained that the Authority has been working on preparing inter-city transportation buses and allocating them to carry out trips to tourist destinations. This is being done to provide safer and more comfortable mass transportation for the public during the Eid Al-Adha holiday. Special trips will be carried out by buses, with a trip departing every 15 minutes to two destinations throughout the days of Eid. The first trip will depart from the main gate of the Clouds Rest area to the summit, and the second trip will depart from the city of Kalba to the Hanging Gardens.
The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority, in collaboration with the Omani National Transport Company "Mwasalat," operates daily bus services between Sharjah and Muscat on international route 203, with two daily departures. The first bus leaves from Jubail bus station in Sharjah at 6:30 am and arrives at Azaiba transportation bus station in Muscat at 4:00 pm, making ten stops along the way. The second bus leaves Muscat at 6:30 am and arrives in Sharjah at 4:00 pm. Tickets for the trip can be booked through the Oman Transport platform for electronic tickets or purchased at the ticket sales outlet at Jubail bus station. The ticket prices for one-way travel are approximately 10 Omani Riyals, equivalent to 100 UAE Dirhams, and 19 Omani Riyals, equivalent to 190 UAE Dirhams for the return trip.
