Sharjah 24: Aiming at raising awareness of societal responsibility, the Arab Parliament for the Child (APC) will hold its fourth meeting of the third session in the middle of July. The meeting will be held at the headquarters of Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, in the presence of parliament members from children of the Arab world.
Holding the meeting in Sharjah reflects the vision of the emirate under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, who is always keen to support and enable children and youth to participate effectively in building a bright future for the Arab world, and the constant follow-up by the Arab League and the Secretary-General, His Excellency Ahmed Aboul Gheit, to continue supporting the children of the Arab world and prepare them to discuss their issues and aspirations.

The meeting will focus on parliamentary member’s social responsibility, which is a topic of great importance in light of the current challenges facing Arab societies. The discussion comes within the framework of APC efforts, under the umbrella of the League of Arab States, to enhance the positive role that children can play in their societies, through adopting the values of responsibility and active participation.

In their interventions, members will address their personal experiences and the projects they participated in to promote social responsibility in their countries.
They will highlight the initiatives they have undertaken in areas such as education, health, environment and volunteerism. It is expected that these interventions will inspire the rest of the members and encourage them to engage in fruitful community activities.

The meeting will also discuss the role of parliament members in raising awareness among their peers of the importance of social responsibility, and how children can be active in their communities by participating in volunteer work and development projects. Members will review experiences from different countries of the Arab world, which will reflect the diversity of experiences and ideas.

In a statement about the session, the Secretary-General of the Arab Parliament for the Child, Ayman Othman Al Barout, said that APC believes that building a generation that is conscious and aware of the importance of social responsibility is the basis for achieving sustainable development in societies, so the topic of social responsibility is of great importance. It reflects the importance of participation in public life and positive influence in society.

Al Barout added that the meeting will be an opportunity for Parliament members to share their experiences and stories about how to practice social responsibility in their homelands and in their communities. In addition, reviewing these experiences will contribute to enhancing a deep understanding of this concept among children, and motivate them to adopt responsible practices that contribute to their participation and the renaissance of their societies.

In his speech, Al Barout pointed out that APC aims, through these meetings, to build a generation of young leaders capable of facing challenges and contributing to building a better future for their countries. Al Barout also confirmed that APC seeks to instil the values of active citizenship and social responsibility in the hearts of children, so that they will be true partners in development.

Al Barout explained that at the conclusion of the meeting, APC will issue recommendations to enhance the role of children in social responsibility and activate their participation in public life. These recommendations will be submitted to the relevant authorities in member states, with the aim of adopting policies and programmes that support such initiatives and encourage children to participate effectively in their societies.
