" Jamrat Al Qayth- translates as “Embers of Summer-” the hottest and driest 40-day period of the year, typically running from July 3 to August 10. During this time, temperatures can soar past 50°C in desert areas, accompanied by hot, dry Samoom winds.

The event was attended by a select group of city residents, government employees, senior citizens, and a number of those interested in heritage and culture, as part of SIH's ongoing efforts to preserve Emirati heritage and introduce the community to its cultural and environmental significance.

The Nightingale: A seasonal symbol in the memory of our ancestors

The event featured a cultural session moderated by media personality Ayoub Al-Badri. Dr Khalid Suleiman bin Juma Al-Hindasi delivered a lecture exploring the concept of the " Jamrat Al Qayth" as one of the seasonal signs used by our ancestors to determine the changing seasons and the beginning of summer. He discussed the significance of the nightingale in popular heritage and the symbolic meanings associated with its appearance in Emirati memory, marking the arrival of the season.

Heritage corners and interactive experiences for visitors

The event included several accompanying heritage corners, such as an Arabic coffee corner and a basket-making corner showcasing one of the authentic Emirati crafts. A visual artist also participated, creating a painting depicting the nightingale. Additionally, a heritage studio allowed visitors to document their participation in an atmosphere inspired by Emirati heritage.

Honouring the participants and supporting entities

At the conclusion of the event, Asma Al Kabouri, Head of the Activities and Events Department at the Sharjah Institute for Heritage - Dibba Al Hisn Branch, honoured the lecturer, participants, and contributing entities in appreciation of their contributions to the success of the event and to enhancing the presence of cultural heritage in the community.
