As the first club in the UAE to introduce this discipline, the initiative aims to expand the national Paralympic sports system, discover new talent, and prepare athletes to compete in local, regional, and international championships.
Al Naqbi stated that adding tandem cycling marks a major milestone in the club’s sports schedule. He explained that the initiative reflects the Board’s commitment to delivering specialized training programmes that identify emerging talent, hone the skills of male and female athletes, and ready them for high-level competition amid the continued growth of Paralympic sports.
Speaking to Sharjah 24, Al Naqbi emphasised that introducing this sport aligns with the club’s broader strategy to diversify its Paralympic disciplines and provide an inclusive environment that fosters athletic growth and opens new paths to success.
During the launch event, participants were introduced to tandem cycling's mechanics and official regulations. The discipline features a two-person bicycle operated by a sighted pilot alongside a visually impaired rider, demanding exceptional coordination and teamwork. All official competitions are conducted under the regulations of the International Cycling Union (UCI).
