Sharjah 24: The second day of the 10th Al Dhaid Date Festival at Al Dhaid Expo Centre featured the “Al Ikhlas” date competition and the fig competition, with around 60 baskets of Al Ikhlas dates and six fig contestants taking part.

Assessment criteria and high competition

Rashid Muhair Al Ketbi, Head of the Sorting and Evaluation Committee at the Al Dhaid Date Festival, said the entries underwent assessment by the specialised committee according to approved criteria. He noted that the competition was highly competitive, reflecting farmers’ focus on date quality, cleanliness, and weight, with one entry reaching 28 grams.

Judging process and upcoming events

He explained Sharjah 24 that submissions were received until 3:00 PM before the judging process began, adding that the fig competition was evaluated based on cleanliness, size, weight, and taste, while the upcoming competitions will include the “Shaishi” date category and the most beautiful “date basket” contest.
