Sharjah24: A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS) and the Arab Theatre Institute. The Bureau, serving as a Gulf educational organisation, is entrusted with coordinating and collaborating among the ministries of the member states, and enriching the educational environment with purposeful cultural activities. The Arab Theatre Authority presents many programmes and initiatives aimed at enhancing the role of theater in education and guidance.
The memorandum of understanding is based on the recommendation of the Thirteenth Arab Education Ministers Conference in Rabat, May 2023, to adopt the use of school theatre in developing the educational process and its transformations in collaboration with the Arab Theatre Authority.
Signed on behalf of (ABEGS) was His Excellency Dr. Abdulrahman Mohammed Al-Asmi, the Director-General, and on behalf of the Institute, His Excellency Mr. Ismail Abdullah, the Secretary-General, on Wednesday, the first of May, 2024.
Highlights of the memorandum include:
- Enhancing cooperation between the parties to develop school theatre and affirming its importance in serving the educational and educational process in the member countries of the Bureau.
- Developing programmes and activities of school theatre in the member countries of the Bureau.
- Activating the activities of school theatre in the member countries of the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States, through the introduction of the following proposals:
- Preparation of effective programmes to organise the Gulf States School Theatre Festival and research seminars and qualification workshops.
- Instilling noble values that contribute to building generations capable of expressing themselves, proud of their national affiliations by enhancing citizenship and identity among students at various stages through the dissemination of theatrical culture in the school community.
- Developing joint mechanisms for the preparation, organisation, and holding of workshops for school theatre officials in the member countries of the Bureau to enhance their competencies.
- Both parties work to celebrate the Arab Theatre Day, which falls on January 10th of each year, and the Arab School Theatre Day, which coincides with May 5th of each year.
