Sharjah24: The Arab Theatre Institute participates for the first time in the Djibouti Book Fair to support Arab literature in general and theatrical works presented for the first time in the Djibouti Book Fair. The fair, sponsored by President Omar Guelleh, aims to promote reading and literature in the country, while also fostering relationships with publishers and authors from Djibouti and around the world. Additionally, it aims to enhance the role of literature in conveying culture and creativity, as part of educational assistance projects, establishing a platform for local literary production, and enriching Djibouti's intellectual and cultural heritage.
The fair includes various accompanying events such as seminars, art exhibitions, artistic performances, and an Arab storyteller workshop.
On this occasion, Ismail Abdullah, Secretary-General of the ATI, stated: 'The ATI, under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, is committed to theatrical openness and collaboration with our brothers in the Republic of Djibouti to develop theatre in the region. This is achieved through training programmes, experience exchange, and consultations. The participation of Arab theatrical authors, who are considered the backbone of the Arab theatrical scene, showcases significant titles and diverse content in these publications. We always hope that the Arab theatrical library becomes a principal component of the theatrical scene in Djibouti.'
'I must commend the Ministry of Culture and the National Agency for the Promotion of Culture in the Republic of Djibouti for their efforts and great enthusiasm towards collaborating on theatre development issues. Furthermore, the presence of Arab theatrical authors at the fair for the first time follows the participation of Djiboutian playwrights for the first time in the 14th edition of the Arab Theatre Festival in January last year in Baghdad, Iraq. Additionally, two Djiboutian students were sent (for the first time) to study theatre at the Higher Institute of Theatre Arts in Rabat, preceded by the organisation of the first theatre training course in Djibouti less than a year ago.
