Sharjah 24: Amidst a large crowd, a warm welcome, and a site full of traditional life and popular costumes, Sheikh Haitham bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Deputy Head of the Office of His Highness the Ruler in Kalba, opened the activities of the 21st editiom of Sharjah Heritage Days in the city of Khorkakkan, in the presence of Dr. Abdul Aziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage; Dr. Rashid Khamis Al Naqbi, Chairman of Khorfakkan Municipal Council; Sultan Yacoub Al Mansouri, Director of the Emiri Diwan in Khorfakkan; Khaled Al Shehhi, Director of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage- Khorfakkan Branch, and a crowd of officials and residents.
Al Musallam stated, following the launching ceremony of the activities that took place to the rhythms of artistic paintings and traditional folk songs of local bands: “The people are a living tributary of heritage and an important and influential factor in the success of heritage activities, due to the historical heritage treasure they possess (tangible and intangible), and because of their awareness of the importance of heritage in establishing values, authenticity, and pride in roots, and this is what we have seen as a living reality among our generous people in the city of Khorfakkan.”
The opening ceremony witnessed the presentation of a number of performances that included broad participation by ancient artisans, and represented the popular market with its land and sea environments, in addition to a number of activities in which various age groups participated with aspects of the nature of ancient daily life and used tools. The activities also included a group of educational workshops and cultural lectures that sing of the glories of the past and evoke the beautiful local heritage.
