Sharjah 24: From Al Hamriyah to Dibba Al Hisn, which was filled with joy and happiness as it witnessed the launch of the Sharjah Heritage Days activities in its 21st edition, where the opening ribbon was cut by Sheikh Haitham bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Deputy Head of the Office of His Highness the Ruler in Kalba, marking the start of the activities in the city in the presence of Dr. Abdul Aziz Al Mussllam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH).
Dr. Al Musallam appreciated the city’s interest in local folklore and its adherence to inherited customs, traditions and crafts in a way that reflects belonging and loyalty. He also envisioned the great national awareness of the importance of local heritage, and the impact of this on its reaching the international level, which looked at it with interest and appreciation.
The opening ceremony witnessed the presentation of a number of performances accompanied by the rhythms of ancient folk songs and chants, in addition to a number of traditional children’s games, and others for police dogs. It also included performances by parachutists decorating the sky with the UAE flag and the slogan of the days, while the event grounds were distinguished by many joyful heritage images, especially the popular market, which housed ancient craftsmen, and depicted important aspects of social life, among others.
The opening ceremony was attended by Ahmed bin Ya’rouf, Chairman of Dibba Al Hisn Municipal Council; Ahmed Sultan Al-Dhahouri, Vice-Chairman of the Council; Dr. Khaled Al Hindassi, Director of SIH’s branch in Dibba Al Hisn, and an elite group of attendees from various government departments, visitors, guests, and the citizens of the city.
