Sharjah24: The traditional Sharjah Heritage Days in Al Hamriyah commenced on Monday, spanning two days with the theme "Tawasul (Communication)." The opening of the 21st edition took place at the Heritage Village overlooking the creek in Al Hamriyah, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
In attendance at the opening were dignitaries such as Dr. Abdulaziz Abdulrahman Almusallam. Chairman of Sharjah Institute for Heritage, Humaid Saif Al Shamsi, Chairman of the Municipal Council in Al Hamriyah, and other distinguished guests. The event attracted a diverse audience, including government officials, community leaders, and residents from Al Hamriyah and neighbouring areas.
The inaugural ceremony featured traditional artistic performances by participating groups, "Al Ayalla and Al Aazi." Attendees explored the Heritage Village, gaining insights into key programmes, activities, and ongoing initiatives during the Sharjah Heritage Days. The tour included visits to pavilions representing various authorities, departments, and institutions participating in the heritage celebration in Al Hamriyah.
Visitors and attendees at the heritage festival in Al Hamriyah actively participated in workshops focusing on folk heritage, where they were exposed to diverse activities throughout the Heritage Village in Al Hamriyah. Notable elements included interactive theatrical performances, folkloric displays, and segments tailored for schools in the Al Hamriyah area. The programme also featured traditional songs, theatrical scenes, and plays presented by the Community Police of the Sharjah Police General Command. Traditional and sports games, cultural events, children's competitions, as well as the distribution of valuable gifts and prizes, brought immense joy to the recipients.
In a statement, Humaid Saif Al Shamsi, expressed that organising the Sharjah Heritage Days in Al Hamriyah aligns with the insightful vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. He emphasised that heritage and history enhance national identity, representing a revival of memory and an embrace of a flourishing future.
His Excellency Mubarak Rashed Al Shamsi, Director of Al Hamriyah Municipality, praised the substantial role of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, in strengthening heritage and folk traditions among the people of Sharjah. He commended His Highness's support for popular arts and heritage worldwide, continuous efforts in supporting organisations in this field, and the establishment of heritage and cultural centres globally. Mubarak Al Shamsi also appreciated the collaboration of various departments, authorities, and institutions in the Sharjah government, highlighting their commitment to participating in the Sharjah Heritage Days in Al Hamriyah. He commended the efforts of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, represented by Dr. Abdulaziz Abdulrahman Almusallam for their dedicated role in preserving heritage, identity, and the popular heritage of ancestors.
Al Shamsi added that the Sharjah Heritage Days in Al Hamriyah will witness numerous heritage activities, accompanying programmes, and workshops in collaboration with the Sharjah Institute for Heritage.
