The Department’s participation comes with the aim of strengthening its relationship with the participating entities from various institutions in Sharjah specifically, and the Emirates in general. Since the Heritage Days are directed to all family members, hence the Department participates with several sections affiliated with it, namely the social education section, which has developed a programme full of awareness-raising workshops for children, especially regarding their rights, as well as by introducing the dangers of the Internet and its impact on children in particular. It also presents on a daily basis, through the main platform of the festival, awareness and educational programmes, entertainment and heritage competitions, and other topics that suit the event, targeting all family members and children.
On the other hand, members of the “Intaj” Centre participates in displaying their home products, and organising heritage and artistic workshops such as telli workshops, workshops on making boxes and telli pens, decorating burqas and lanterns, a cup decorating workshop, printing on pottery, creating a painting with fabrics, and others.
Ten members of the SSSD’s Elderly Services Centre take part in the Sharjah Heritage Days and are present on a daily basis, to meet with the public and socialise with them. They also hold workshops for the public on making heritage products, such as the “Al-Bathitha” workshop, the “Al-Jami” workshop, and the Al Dukhun workshops.
A corner was also designated on the department’s platform for “Memories Talk,” which transmits popular culture from the elderly to children and members of society, by listing their traditional crafts that they used to work in the past, such as building old houses, diving, telli, leekh seamstressing, and crafting, Al-Arish tailoring, and others.
It is worth mentioning that all branches of the SSSD, in Sharjah, the Central Region, the Eastern Region and Al Hamriyah participate in the activities of Sharjah Heritage Days.
