Sharjah 24: Under the theme "With Arabic... We Innovate" and with the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the fifth edition of the Arabic Language Competitions for Gulf Countries kicked off in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, on February 18, 2024.
These competitions, commencing on Sunday, aim to bring together exceptional students in Arabic language from Gulf nations, promoting early linguistic talents and strengthening connections between students and innovators in this domain.
During the inaugural event, Dr. Issa Al Hammadi, Director of the Arabic Language Educational Centre for the Gulf States (ALECGS) in Sharjah, extended a warm welcome to the participating Gulf delegations, stressing the importance of fostering a spirit of competition and motivating the participating students.
The initial meeting delved into the detailed programme for the competitions, the responsibilities of the organising committees, and the agenda for the scientific committee. The high committee, led by the director of the Arabic Language Educational Centre, was formed, comprising members of the scientific committee, heads of participating Gulf delegations, and supervisors from the centre.
Reviewing the detailed programme, the meeting discussed the tasks of the high committee and organising committees. The reiterated goals of the competitions include contributing to the academic advancement of students and teachers in Arabic language studies, activating the role of institutions involved in teaching and learning Arabic, and fostering loyalty to the Arabic language among the youth.
Subsequently, Dr. Issa Saleh Al-Hammadi along with heads and members of participating delegations, conducted a tour to acquaint themselves with the centre and its facilities. They highlighted the centre’s accomplishments supported by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, providing substantial and generous support for the Arabic language. The visit extended to the centre’s library, housing resources for diverse studies and research conducted by the centre in the field of teaching and learning Arabic, as well as other domains covered by the publications of the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS).
The participating students were nominated by their respective countries through a competition mechanism, involving final competitions within to select outstanding students in the field of Arabic language.
