University students involved in volunteer activities are encouraged to strive for excellence through this prize. The prize is awarded to the student who has accumulated the highest number of voluntary work hours.
Those who fall under this group must be between the ages of 17 and 25, not actively working, and enrolled in an educational institution in the UAE. The student also has a year-end goal of accumulating 100 hours of volunteer work.
According to Fatima Musa Al Balushi, the Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work's Executive Director, the organisation is resolute in its mission to promote and facilitate youth engagement in community service through a variety of volunteer endeavours. A student's skill set and sense of belonging to society can both greatly benefit from their time spent volunteering.
Some UAE public colleges now include community service as a graduation requirement, which is a step in the right direction, according to Al Balushi. By motivating pupils to actively engage in extracurricular activities, this helps improve their communication abilities.
