Sharjah 24: Under the gracious support of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the festivities marking the World Arabic Language Day were held. This event was organised by the Arabic Language Educational Centre for Gulf States in Sharjah (ALECGS) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
The event took place, on Monday, with participants joining both physically and remotely through the Zoom platform.

The annual celebration's coordination aligns with the directives of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the International Plan for the Development of Arabic Culture (Arabia). 

In his address, Dr. Issa Saleh Al Hammadi, the Director of (ALECGS), welcomed the participants and commended the efforts of the United Arab Emirates and, specifically, the Emirate of Sharjah for their pioneering initiatives aimed at preserving and elevating the Arabic language.

Dr. Al Hammadi highlighted the UAE's endeavours to support Arabic language initiatives, stating, "On this day, we recognise the advanced and distinguished efforts of the UAE in promoting the Arabic language. The country has implemented a range of quality initiatives dedicated to preserving the Arabic language. Through these efforts, the UAE has achieved a prestigious position, leading globally in endeavours to enhance the Arabic language's stature in the realms of science, knowledge, and cultural communication."

He also acknowledged the exceptional contributions of His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, in championing the Arabic language and establishing various institutions to safeguard its vitality.

Expressing gratitude for the continuous support of His Highness to ALECGS, Dr. Al Hammadi emphasised His Highness's unwavering commitment and pride in the Arabic language. He noted that Sharjah currently hosts a diverse array of institutions dedicated to the Arabic language.

During his speech, Al Hammadi unveiled new releases for the year 2023. These releases were initiated by the centre from its Sharjah headquarters, serving the Gulf countries at the regional level. Additionally, he mentioned other programmes, including conferences, training initiatives, the fourth edition of the Arabic Language Proficiency Programme, and the Arabic Language Excellence Award.

The occasion wrapped up by acknowledging participants in the celebration program and those who played a role in the seminar organised by the centre in commemoration of the World Arabic Language Day. The seminar, adopting the same theme as the UNESCO on the World Arabic Language Day, was duly recognised and honoured under the title "Arabic-The Language of Poetry and Arts."
