Sharjah 24: The participants of the “Your Summer with Us” activities, organised by “Sharjah Youth” affiliated to Rubu' Qarn Foundation for Creating Future Leaders and Innovators, learned carpet-making skills and implemented 20 pieces of artistic creative designs, in an exceptional learning experience aimed at training young people in handicraft arts, in preparation for the manufacture of the Emirati carpet, which combines originality and modernity by the people of Sharjah.
The young people learned skills and creative arts in the "Carpet Making" programme at the Skills Lab for the year 2023, held in the Khorfakkan Youth Centre and the Wasit Youth Centre, and within the framework of the Fine Arts Laboratory, where the programme focused on manual skills without the use of modern devices.
The young people learned about the natural materials derived from the local environment and used in the textile industry, in addition to coordinate bright colours to complete carpet designs using the loom machine, which requires accuracy, to come up with creative pieces of art that can be used as a piece of decor hung on the walls of the house, and other places, which gives a sense of beauty and originality.
The programme contributed to developing the creative imagination skills of the participants in textile making, enhancing their ability to coordinate colours and hand weaving, in addition to an in-depth understanding of traditional industry techniques and their use in daily life, as well as enabling them to employ their acquired skills in producing innovative pieces of art.
