This came during a press conference held by Sharjah Police in cooperation with the Sharjah Police Academy, Wednesday, at the Academy’s headquarters in the University City, in the presence of Brigadier General Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, and Brigadier General Dr. Mohammed Khamis Al Othmani, Director General of the Sharjah Police Academy and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Award, and a group of international experts in the field, and a number of different media representatives.
Scientific Research in Sharjah Police
Brigadier Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer stressed that the idea of the award enhances the role of scientific and knowledge research in the Sharjah Police by spreading the culture of investment in the human resource of students, scholars, researchers and foresights from different backgrounds due to the importance of participatory work and knowledge exchange in the process of foreseeing the future, and arriving at innovative solutions for future security challenges in a way that supports leadership decisions by security institutions and governments at the local and global levels, pointing out that the award combines scientific research and forward-looking studies, and is considered a reference for future studies that augment security work.
Target groups
Brigadier Dr. Mohammed Khamis Al Othmani explained that the award targets two categories, namely, future foresight institutions, research centres and universities inside and outside the country, and the category of researchers, experts and students of educational institutions for the undergraduate and postgraduate studies. These two categories will commit to presenting proposals in the future of transportation, the future of cyber security, the future of drug abuse and combating and rehabilitation of drug users, the future of correctional and penal institutions and rehabilitation of inmates, the future of outsourcing or privatising government services, non-traditional crimes, and the future of work systems.
Cash prizes
Brigadier Al Othmani unveiled that the money prize amounts to US $127,000, with $50,000 for the first category, $17,000 of which go to the first place, $10,000 for the second place and $5000 for the third place, while the second category prizes include $10,000 for the first place, $5,000 for the second place, and $3,000 for the third place, in addition to granting a cash equivalent of $1,500 for each study that passed the first evaluation stage, noting that the results will be announced on December 2, coinciding with the World Future Day and the UAE National Day.
Registration for the award
Brigadier General Al Othmani pointed out that registration for the award is open from today, Wednesday, 3 until 25 August, through the link https://www.psa.ac.ae/pages/shjpolice announced via the websites and social media channels of the Sharjah Police and the Sharjah Police Academy.
Terms and Conditions
Brigadier Al Othmani clarified that the general terms and conditions for participation in the award are the commitment to fulfilling all the criteria in the participation form and the formal and methodological conditions described therein. It is also accepted to apply for the second and third categories individually or in pairs, provided that the research should not have previously been awarded, or had a patent, or had intellectual property rights to any of the entities inside or outside the country.
Tribute
For his part, Dr. Saeed Al Dhaheri, Director of the Centre for Future Studies at the University of Dubai, congratulated the Sharjah Police on this global achievement, which confirms the prestigious position of the Sharjah Police and its professional capabilities at the global level.
Dr. Saeed Al Dhaheri pointed out that the evaluation process is carried out in cooperation with an international association that includes elite futurists around the world, who adopt various standards in this regard.
Message to government and educational institutions
In the same context, Dr. Omar Rashid Al Shehhi, Director of the Research and Development Centre at the Ministry of Interior, added that this award is a pioneering practice in the field of encouraging and adopting forward-looking studies, thus sending a message to all government educational institutions, and members of society, including researchers and scholars, to participate in this pioneering award, stressing that the Ministry of Interior, in cooperation with its partners, is keen to improve the quality of society's life in order to create a better future for its members, in implementation of the wise directions of the UAE government.

Sharjah Police invites researchers, research units, future foresight centres and institutions to participate in the award, and to present a vision for the future of security work in the United Arab Emirates in accordance with modern foresight standards and mechanisms, in order to ensure the development of possible applicable scenarios and mechanisms to confront crime, and future security phenomena and challenges, with the necessity of their compatibility with international standards in this field to ensure improvement of quality of life for members of the society.
