Sharjah 24: The Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport, Sharjah Branch (AASTS), hosted the closing ceremony of the finals of the second edition of the regional competition "SeaPerch" West Asia.
This was held in a strategic partnership with the Government of Sharjah, to announce the first three winning teams who will qualify to represent West Asian countries and compete in the international finals of the competition at the University of Maryland, USA, from 4 to 6 June
The competition is organised by the Global Innovation & Entrepreneurship Company with the support of Underwater Robotics Challenges, and teams from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain, as well as Iraq, Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon.
The "Blue Tech" team from Kuwait took first place in the competition in its second edition, followed by the "Golden Chameleon" team from the UAE in second place, the "Adventure" team from the UAE, and the Majan team from the Sultanate of Oman in third place. The Best Design Award went to the ASAS team from Oman.
According to Captain Dr. Ahmed Yusuf, Vice Dean of the Academy's College of Maritime Transport and Technology, this international competition is an excellent opportunity to teach students in the early stages how to deal with modern technologies such as remote-controlled robots capable of swimming and working underwater.
The competition took place at the academy’s swimming pool.
