Sharjah 24: The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, Sharjah Branch (AASTS), participated in the Arab Forum for Digital Economy 2022, organised by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in cooperation with the Arab Federation for Digital Economy, at Expo 2020 Dubai, with the participation of a large number of officials and representatives of Arab and international organisations.
His Excellency Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar Ismail Farag, President of the AASTS, stressed the importance of the role of the digital economy in enabling Arab countries to focus on implementing development programmes, pointing to the importance of the maritime sector in promoting the blue economy, which is an essential pillar for achieving sustainable development goals.
His Excellency added that a study prepared by the Arab Monetary Fund entitled "Calculating a Composite Index to Monitor the Development of the Digital Economy in the Arab Countries" indicated that the Arab countries had achieved important achievements in the field of digital transformation on a number of levels, but this progress is still less than its counterpart recorded at the global level and less also, compared to the progress achieved by middle-income developing countries.
