Sharjah 24: The UAE Innovation Month in the Emirate of Sharjah, held in the Men’s College at the University of Sharjah (UoS), continues until February 18, and is filled with many student participations from various colleges and specialisations.
The students of the College of Police Science in Sharjah participated in three projects. The first of which is based on providing smart headphones with additional features to the regular headphones in shooting ranges, as they will be equipped with a microphone and headphones that will facilitate the trainer to communicate with the shooter and give him instructions. The second project is a small sensor that shows the number of bullets in the weapon.
The third project is based on placing moisture sensors on the poles in the external roads, which are exposed to the formation of fog, connecting them with radar devices to reduce the speed limit according to the density of the fog, in order to reduce accidents that result from fog.
While students of the College of Engineering at the University of Sharjah (UoS) participated in a project represented in a glove that translates a type of sign language into written English letters that help people with disabilities in communicating with others. Students from the College of Architecture presented the ‘Beyond Earth’ project, a proposal for the first 3D habitat on Mars adapted to the climate of Mars.
The students of the College of Fine Arts and Design presented three-dimensional Emirati designs inspired by ancient Emirati heritage. In addition to the "Al Qassimi Foundation for Women's Empowerment" project, which deals with all issues related to women's empowerment.
Furthermore, student Saif Hassan Karam from the Model High School explained the “eco station” project, which allows the driver the opportunity to charge his electric car anywhere and anytime, adding that individuals can charge the electric battery quickly and effectively.
Students of the College of Computing and Informatics participated in the Automatic Handwriting Recognition Project, which is a simulation of the human reading process by converting handwritten writing input into a computer screen printed and editable writing by relying on a unit to recognise handwritten letters and words.
The College of Medicine participated in a project that attempts to use 3D printing technology to produce stereoscopic models of diseases that affect women's health. These models are used to explain pathological conditions that are difficult for patients to understand, especially those that need explanation for the steps of the surgery, which helps the patient to make decisions towards different treatment options.
The project of the College of Pharmacy students focused on the organic “flavonoids” and their ability to modulate immunity and fight infections, including inhibiting various inflammatory cytokines, which are among the most common causes of death. They also participated in a project that works to reduce the spread of type 2 diabetes by monitoring susceptible cases.
The students of the College of Health Sciences presented two projects, the first of which is to explore previously undiscovered bacteria in the Sharjah desert as a new source of antimicrobials, by isolating bacteria that show antimicrobial activity against multidrug-resistant human pathogens. The second project is based on a study the effect of ionic substitution of lidocaine using electrodes.
The College of Dentistry participated in a project about helping people who face hearing problems understand the treatment steps for dental problems through a video showing them medical procedures in images and sign language.
It is worth noting that the activities of the UAE Innovation Month in the Emirate of Sharjah will continue until February 18, and that the participation of the Emirate of Sharjah within the UAE Innovation Month is part of the government’s continuous efforts to foster a culture of innovation in the government sector.
