The study, which is supervised by Dr. Sameh Soliman, Associate Professor at the College of Pharmacy, and Dr. Rania Hamdi, a post-doctoral researcher, through the use of artificial intelligence and laboratory analysis, revealed the inhibitory effect of a substance extracted from natural plants, a flavonoid, against SARS-CoV-2 by Binding to essential viral targets required for virus entry and replication.

Flavonoids also showed excellent immune-modulating and anti-inflammatory activity including inhibiting various inflammatory cytokines, which cause many cases of death. Moreover, flavonoids show a high level of safety and almost no side effects.
