Marrakech Festival of Arabic Poetry kicks off

Sharjah 24: Under the auspices of King Mohammed VI of the Kingdom of Morocco and His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the House of Poetry in Marrakech, Morocco, organised the third edition of Marrakech Festival of Arabic Poetry, that kicked off on Friday, October 29, 2021 in Moulay Abdel Salam Square.
The third edition of Marrakech Festival of Arabic Poetry was inaugurated in the presence of His Excellency Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Department of Culture in Sharjah, Mr. Abdulelah Afifi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, His Excellency Al Asri Saeed Al Dhaheri, Ambassador of the UAE to Morocco, Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qasir, Director of the Department of Cultural Affairs, and a number of Poets, journalists and poetry fans.

The ceremony began with the inauguration of the exhibition showcasing the House of Poetry in Marrakech journey during the last five years; including photos from the events and festivals organised by the House of Poetry; in addition to the publications of the Department of Culture and the House of Poetry in the field of literature and poetry; followed by the presentation of a video documenting the most important moments of the House of Poetry in Marrakech journey during the last five years.

Abdulelah Afifi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication extended his thanks to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for his pioneering initiative in establishing Poetry Houses in the Arab world, whereas they enhance the joint Arab cultural work.

His Excellency Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Department of Culture in Sharjah, said that the Marrakech Festival of Arabic Poetry is back again to gather the poets of Morocco.

His Excellency Al Owais added that during the past five years, the House of Poetry in Marrakech has endeavoured to give poetry and poets a decent presence for the Arab Diwan, through many poetry evenings and various cultural and artistic forums related to poetry.

His Excellency concluded his speech by saying, that he is pleased to extend his thanks and appreciation to the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, the main partner in the initiative to establish poetry houses in Morocco, and that he is honoured to convey the greetings of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
