Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) has proven its pioneering role in consolidating the culture of social responsibility and volunteer work among the members of the community.
SBA has recently obtained the first place in the field of creating voluntary opportunities - the category of government institutions, within the Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work (SAVW), in its nineteenth session, for its efforts in promoting the culture of volunteering during the Sharjah International Book Fair 2021.

The voluntary work efforts of the Sharjah Book Authority are embodied in establishing the Wamda Volunteer Team in 2016, which is supervised by the SBA’s Institutional Communication Department, with more than 10,000 volunteers, who have provided more than 15,000 volunteering hours during the last 3 years.

Bader Saab, Head of the Institutional Communication Department at the SBA, said: "We are proud of receiving this prestigious award, which is inspired by the thought and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. The award has succeeded in promoting volunteer work in society, fueling the spirit of competition, and supporting and encouraging individual and institutional volunteer work.

He added: "The Sharjah Book Authority was able to make an important shift in the culture of volunteer work during the Sharjah International Book Fair 2021, when we announced the launch of the volunteer opportunity "Leaders of the Sharjah International Book Fair 2021", as part of the SBA's annual plan to organise the fair in the best way and with the highest quality standards by the help of volunteers, in cooperation with the Sharjah Volunteer Centre, to lead the organisation and management operations, where hundreds of volunteers participated at the time, and directly contributed to the great success achieved by the exhibition at various levels.”
