Sharjah24: The University of Sharjah (UoS) ranked second at the level of the United Arab Emirates in the field of engineering and technology after it was ranked 479 globally. This according to the latest results announced by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for the year 2021 of scientific topics.
Prof. Ahmed Al-Shama'a, Dean of the College of Engineering, expressed his pride that the University ranked second in the UAE in the field of engineering and technology. This accomplishment adds to the University’s continuous achievements, especially in the field of scientific research. It is certain that maintaining such standards at the level of engineering disciplines, he added, supports the University’s international ranking.

Al-Shama'a added that the University's classification is based on research outputs obtained from 296 groups of subjects out of 482 groups, and with a total of 796 specialised subjects out of 6,200 potential topics. Al-Shama’a pointed out the strength of the academic staff in the College of Engineering as several faculty members recently joined the top 2% list of scientists and researchers. This list features scientists whose scientific research has the highest percentage of references and citations at the global level for the year 2019, according to the results of the Stanford University ranking
.
Prof. Mohamed Maalej, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, emphasised that the College of Engineering has benefited from the University’s great support for scientific research through its research institutes, centers and laboratories. In addition to the funding provided to research groups, research projects, graduate and undergraduate students, and international cooperation. This support led to a significant increase in research activities which were translated into valuable publications in reputable journals, as evident in the Scopus database. This to further promote scientific research in engineering and technology, including interdisciplinary research.

Mahmoud Sami, Research Assistant at the Department of Electrical Engineering, congratulated the University of Sharjah on this achievement and congratulated the students and graduates of the College of Engineering its progress and global reputation.
