Maryam Al Suwaidi, Director of the Family Gathering Centre, explained that the Social Services Department is committed each year to participating in this international event, recognising its importance in promoting awareness of children’s rights. She emphasised that children are a key focus of the department’s efforts to protect them from all forms of violence and abuse. Al Suwaidi added that the department also designates 15 March each year as Emirati Children’s Day, in addition to World Children’s Day, to foster a culture of child protection and strengthen community engagement in children’s welfare.
The celebration will include art and awareness workshops conducted by lecturers from the University of Sharjah, including Dr Sharifa Al Suwaidi and Dr Aisha Al Musafri, who will present various educational and interactive sessions. Participating schools include Al Ruwaida Kindergarten and Cycle One School, as well as Al Diyaa Private School, which will take part through student performances and activities.
In cooperation with the Children’s Centre in Al Qarayen, the event will be held on 13 November to avoid overlapping with exam schedules and to allow more children to participate.
Al Suwaidi noted that the event will see broad participation from the Children’s Centre, the involved schools, and children benefiting from Dar Al Aman and the Social Care Home for Children. The activities aim to promote values of participation, creativity, and cooperation among children through engaging educational and entertainment programmes.
