The event targeted senior citizens and Al Hamriyah Municipality employees and featured an educational lecture by Public Health Department staff.
The session emphasised the importance of protecting terrestrial and marine environments, introduced participants to key environmental components, and highlighted positive practices that help preserve natural resources for future generations.
Participants were also introduced to major environmental pollutants, their impact on people and natural resources, and practical ways to reduce pollution through sustainable solutions.
The lecture emphasised the importance of recycling, environmental innovation, responsible resource use and adopting environmentally friendly behaviours.
The event saw strong participant engagement through awareness activities and educational displays that highlighted community responsibility for environmental protection and the importance of preserving biodiversity and natural resources through collective action.
Mubarak Rashid Al Shamsi, Director of Al Hamriyah Municipality, said that the celebration of World Environment Day reflects the municipality’s commitment to promoting environmental awareness and sustainability across all sectors of society.
He stressed that protecting the environment and preserving natural resources is a shared responsibility requiring cooperation between institutions and individuals. He added that the municipality remains committed to delivering awareness programmes and initiatives to build a more environmentally conscious and sustainable community, in line with the UAE’s sustainability objectives and the vision of the Emirate of Sharjah.
