Sharjah 24: Suad Butti Al Shamsi, Director of the Social Education Department at the Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD), explained that the graduation and honouring of 17 students from the "Knowledge is Light" initiative, held on Thursday, at Al Madam Cultural and Sports Club, comes within the framework of the department's commitment to empowering senior citizens and maintaining their active and sustainable connection with society through diverse educational and knowledge-based programmes.

Empowering senior citizens

Speaking exclusively to “Sharjah 24,” Suad Butti Al Shamsi emphasised that the "Knowledge is Light" initiative aims to integrate senior citizens into society and enhance their presence and participation. She noted that the graduating class comprised 17 students who made commendable efforts in continuing to acquire information, knowledge, and educational skills.

The Director of the Social Education Department at the Sharjah Department of Social Services added that the initiative provides a range of educational services for female students, including reading, writing, arithmetic, and modern technologies, in addition to Quranic recitation. This contributes to developing the abilities of senior citizens and supports their positive interaction with their families and communities.

Al Shamsi noted that SSSD attracts increasing numbers of participants to this initiative annually, emphasizing that this high turnout reflects the programme's importance and its societal impact. She encouraged elderly parents to register for the "Knowledge is Light" initiative, as classes have been opened not only for women but also for senior men at the Dibba Al Hisn and Khor Fakkan branches. This expands the initiative's reach and reinforces its mission of serving and empowering senior citizens educationally and socially.
