Sharjah 24: Mohammed Al Hosani, Director of Leadership and Empowerment at the Emirates Foundation, announced the implementation of the “Schools with a Community Touch” project at Al Ahliah School in Sharjah. This initiative, part of the “7 Volunteer Opportunities in 7 Emirates” program, was carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Community Empowerment and the Sharjah Center for Voluntary Work, affiliated with the Sharjah Department of Social Services. The project focused on renovating school facilities and improving the learning environment through painting, murals, and landscaping, with the participation of specialized volunteers. This initiative embodies the UAE’s vision for the Year of Community 2025.

In an exclusive statement to “Sharjah 24,” Al Hosani explained that this project, one of the initiative’s phases, was implemented at Al Ahliah School in Sharjah under the slogan “Schools with a Community Touch.” The volunteer work centered on maintaining the school and enhancing the learning environment in classrooms and facilities through beautification and painting, adding visually appealing touches for students. He emphasized that the goal is for students to feel that school is a more beautiful, cleaner, and safer place—not just an academic building, but a learning space that fosters a sense of belonging and psychological well-being.

The Director of Leadership and Empowerment at the Emirates Foundation pointed out that the volunteer opportunities in this phase were not random, but rather selected based on genuine needs on the ground and requests submitted by specialized volunteers. These included agricultural specialists to work on the school's green spaces, artists and painters from universities across the country to create educational and aesthetically pleasing murals in classrooms and hallways, and a number of electrical engineers to ensure the safety of electrical wiring, appliances, and equipment within the school. He emphasized that this type of "specialized volunteering" represents added value because it goes beyond mere symbolic gestures, providing a direct professional service to the community.

Al Hosani added that the initiative is not limited to individual volunteers, but also includes the involvement of parents. A number of parents participated in painting, organizing, and renovating classrooms, aiming to foster a sense of shared responsibility between families and the school. This reinforces the idea that the school environment is everyone's responsibility, not just that of the educational institution. He noted that this family participation is part of the Year of the Community 2025 initiative, which emphasizes social cohesion and solidarity among the various components of Emirati society. Mohammed Al Hosani concluded by saying that the “7 Volunteer Opportunities in 7 Emirates” initiative is being implemented in partnership between the Emirates Foundation and a number of entities concerned with community work in the country, during the period from October to December 2025. It aims to provide quality volunteering opportunities in each emirate and to highlight a model of volunteer work that focuses on direct and tangible impact, in line with the objectives of the Year of Society 2025, which promotes the values of cohesion and social responsibility, and makes volunteering a daily practice and an established culture in the UAE.
