Norris, who started from pole position at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City, dominated the race from start to finish, crossing the finish line after 71 laps with a time of 1:37:58.574, finishing 30.324 seconds ahead of second-placed Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc of Monaco and 31.049 seconds ahead of Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull), the four-time world champion, who finished third.
"We'll take it one week at a time," said the 25-year-old Norris. "We had to stay focused from the start, then the race was easy. After a good start and a good first lap, I was able to build on the lead." Norris added, "The atmosphere was great, and it's really great to win here for the first time. Now we'll take it one week at a time." It was Norris's first win since the Hungarian Grand Prix on 3 August, his sixth of the season and his tenth in his career.
Norris also became the fourth McLaren driver to win the Mexican Grand Prix, following the late Brazilian Ayrton Senna (1989), Frenchman Alain Prost (1988), and New Zealander Denny Hulme (1969).
Norris took the lead in the standings with 357 points, one point ahead of teammate Piastri, who dropped to second. Verstappen continued to narrow the gap between himself and the two McLaren drivers, sitting in third place with 321 points, with four rounds remaining, including two Sprint races, and a total of 116 points still up for grabs.
