Milan, the leaders of the Italian Football League for the first time in three years, missed a chance to extend their lead after a 2-2 draw with Pisa in the opening match of the eighth round.
Portuguese international Rafael Leão opened the scoring with a deceptive shot from the sidelines in the seventh minute, his third goal in two matches. This came after he had been criticized by his coach, Massimiliano Allegri, in early October for his lack of decisiveness in front of goal.
However, Milan's performance declined dramatically after that, allowing the newly promoted team to return to the top flight to score through a penalty kick scored by veteran Colombian and substitute Juan Cuadrado (37 years old) in the 59th minute, and then the Angolan M’bala Nzola to take the lead (86).
Swiss substitute Zachary Athekami snatched an equaliser for the Rossoneri in stoppage time (90+3) with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area.
Despite this, Milan extended their unbeaten streak to seven consecutive matches (five wins and two draws), raising their tally to 17 points, two points ahead of Inter, Napoli, and Roma, who all have 15 points.
Pisa, meanwhile, sits in 18th place with four points.
Today, Saturday, there's a heavyweight clash between Inter, who are unbeaten in their last eight matches, and their host, defending champion Napoli, who are hoping to make up for their heavy 6-2 defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League midweek.
