Sharjah24: Demonstrating its firm commitment to promoting an inclusive and sustainable academic environment, the University of Al Dhaid, through its Student Counselling Centre, took part in the Expo for People of Determination held at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The event, which started on Monday, 6 October 2025, and lasted for three days, brought together a diverse array of local and international organisations dedicated to supporting and empowering individuals with disabilities.

Commitment to inclusion and empowerment

This participation aligns with His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi's vision, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Al Dhaid, to promote inclusion and empowerment of students with disabilities across educational institutions. The initiative reinforces the principles of equality and inclusivity within the university environment, helping to build an academic community that embraces diversity and provides opportunities for success and excellence for all students.

Leadership statement

Her Excellency Professor Dr Aisha Bushlaibi, the Director of the University, stated that the participation acts as an essential platform for engaging with community organisations and specialised companies working in the field of disability inclusion. She emphasised that it facilitates the exchange of expertise and the exploration of partnerships to improve the quality of services provided to students both on and off campus, strengthening the university’s position as an inclusive and supportive academic institution for all learners.

Comprehensive support services for students of determination

Through its Student Counselling Centre, the University of Al Dhaid continues to demonstrate its comprehensive support system for students of determination. The centre provides individual and group psychological counselling to help students overcome challenges and maintain emotional and social stability. It also offers academic support through personalised study plans tailored to students’ abilities and needs, as well as in-class and examination adjustments, such as extended test times, academic aides, and suitable testing environments.

Additionally, the centre organises career guidance sessions to help students prepare for professional life after graduation and hosts development workshops aimed at enhancing life and social skills while boosting self-confidence. To support learning, the university offers supplementary services such as sign language interpretation and accessible educational materials in audio or Braille formats for visually impaired students. It also collaborates with external partners to arrange health and rehabilitation services when necessary, ensuring a comprehensive support system.

Promoting awareness and inclusive culture

The centre actively encourages a culture of inclusion and understanding across the campus by organising awareness campaigns and community initiatives that foster acceptance and inclusivity.

Commitment to national inclusion goals

This participation highlights the university’s commitment to turning the UAE’s national goals of inclusion and empowerment for people of determination into concrete actions within its educational environment, thereby improving campus life quality and promoting equality and equal opportunities in education for all.
