The workshops, held under the theme "Community Service as Leadership," aimed to instil Emirati values and foster a sense of belonging and loyalty in their members.
This series included four training workshops spanning the months of August and September, delivered by a group of specialised trainers. They focused on developing the members' skills, refining their personalities, and strengthening their role in serving the community, in line with the session's theme.
Professor Abdullah Al Shehhi presented two training workshops. The first, titled "Values and Customs," focused on instiling the values of respect and Emirati authenticity as part of the "Emirati House" initiative. It also introduced etiquette and conduct in social and official gatherings and events, while promoting the social and ethical values associated with authentic Emirati customs. It also aimed to develop effective communication skills and boost members' self-confidence.
The second workshop, titled "Building a Positive Self-Image," aimed to enhance Shura Council members' self-confidence and self-esteem, encouraging them to think positively and optimistically through interactive activities and methods. The workshop included training on the balanced use of body language and visual and vocal communication.
Members also participated in the third workshop, held in cooperation with Vision Media and presented by consultant Susan Abu Daf. The workshop, titled "Media Speech Protocol," focused on radio and television speaking skills, various interview types and methods, and the foundations and rules of dealing with the media. Participants acquired practical skills in the art of facing the camera, which contributed to developing their conversational skills and tact during media interviews.
In the fourth workshop, presented by Ms. Fatima Al Ali, titled "The Art of Delivering the Message," they learned about various creative methods, such as employing imagination, logic, and facts in creative thinking and expressing their feelings and ideas through storytelling.
Participating members expressed their positive interaction with the training programmes, emphasising their willingness to assume responsibility and represent the voices of their peers, thus promoting a culture of constructive dialogue and active community participation.
It is worth noting that the Sharjah Children's Shura Council is one of the pioneering initiatives in the country. Its first session was launched in 1997 under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to provide a genuine platform enabling children to discuss their issues and express their opinions within an experience that mimics real parliamentary practices.
