Al Hamriyah Municipality has launched its annual "Safe and Happy Summer" campaign, aimed at raising awareness, offering guidance, and enhancing public safety and security across its facilities during the summer season. The campaign places a strong focus on Hamriyah Beach and the beach park, which attract large numbers of community members, visitors, and tourists. It is being held in strategic partnership with Sharjah Police General Command and several public and private sector entities.

The campaign coincides with the International Day for the Prevention of Drowning and is organised annually in collaboration with Sharjah Police.

Weekend events and educational activities

Over the weekend, the municipality and its partners launched a series of specialised activities. The Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority hosted two hands-on workshops for target groups. These began with a "Hat and Bag Painting" workshop followed by a "Colouring" session, both designed to promote awareness about following proper safety guidelines while swimming in the sea. The sessions highlighted the dangers of dry drowning and rip currents, stressing the importance of adhering to safety instructions.

Interactive theatre performance

An interactive play titled My Environment, My Responsibility, presented by Sharjah Police, served as a central part of the awareness campaign. The performance underscored the dangers of drowning and the importance of family safety during beach visits. Delivered in an engaging and entertaining way, it aimed to communicate safety messages effectively while keeping audiences of all ages entertained and informed.

Audience engagement and feedback

Alya Ibrahim Al Awni from the Municipality’s Legal Affairs Department stated that the play successfully captivated audiences, especially children, with its realistic, relatable beachside scenarios. The play effectively conveyed the importance of following safety rules and parental supervision during swimming. It was met with significant audience interaction and helped instil a deeper sense of individual and community responsibility for environmental and public safety.

Municipal inspection and outreach

The municipality’s Inspection and Monitoring Section also played an active role by engaging with visitors and families, distributing informative flyers. These materials covered general swimming guidelines for both the sea and private pools, and explained the meaning of the coloured beach flags at Hamriyah Beach, which indicate swimming conditions. This effort aimed to boost public understanding of safe swimming practices.

Children’s workshops and recreational programmes

Ammar Ali Al Muhairi, Director of Legal Affairs at Al Hamriyah Municipality, noted that on the occasion of the International Day for the Prevention of Drowning (25 July), the municipality, along with its partners, organised various fun and educational activities for children. These included summer-themed workshops, live entertainment shows, interactive games, and the distribution of prizes and gifts.

Key safety messages

Al Muhairi added that the campaign continues to meet its key goals by educating visitors on the importance of following beach safety protocols. These include adhering to posted guidance along the beach and park, swimming only in designated areas, supervising children at all times, observing coloured warning flags that indicate sea conditions, and following instructions from lifeguards and municipal inspectors stationed along Hamriyah Beach.
