The initiative targeted young participants registered in the programme, offering them a rich practical experience beginning with a visit to the Co-operative. The aim was to raise awareness about local fishing methods and to introduce them to traditional fishing tools and practices, thereby strengthening their connection to the marine environment and the professions of their ancestors.
The programme also included a number of educational workshops, such as the "Digital Quality of Life" workshop organised by the Social Services Department of the Hamriyah Council, and the "Hand in Hand" workshop delivered by Haya Al Qasim, a thinking skills trainer from Dar Shams. Additionally, various sports activities were held, including jujitsu and archery, hosted at the Al Hamriyah Cultural and Sports Club.
In this context, Salem Al Muhairi, Director of the Sharjah Fisheries Authority, stated that the Authority places great importance on spreading and enhancing marine culture among the youth, recognising their future role in protecting and ensuring the sustainability of the marine environment. He affirmed that the Authority will continue to support initiatives that contribute to building an environmentally and culturally aware generation.
Meanwhile, Harib Sultan bin Harib Al Muhairi, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Al Hamriyah Cooperative Society for Fishermen, confirmed that this initiative aims to raise awareness among young people about the fishing profession, especially in coastal areas such as Al Hamriyah. It also seeks to familiarise them with the maritime heritage passed down by their ancestors, thereby reinforcing values of belonging and pride in the local identity.
