Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Arab Cultural Club held a special event last night to honor journalist and novelist Nasser Iraq, who is leaving the UAE after many years of contributing to the cultural and literary scene. Born in Cairo in 1961, Nasser is not only a writer but also a visual artist. He studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cairo and has held significant positions, including managing editor of the “Youm7” newspaper and “Horof Arabiyah” magazine. Over the years, he participated in various cultural festivals and seminars throughout the UAE. Nasser has written several novels, with his most notable works being “Al Ezbkeya,” which won the Katara Prize for Arabic Novel in 2016, and “The Unemployed,” which was nominated for the Arabic Booker Prize in 2011.

The ceremony featured key figures like Dr. Omar Abdul Aziz, the Chairman of the Club, and Vice Chairman Ali Al-Mughni, along with a gathering of intellectuals. Dr. Omar highlighted that this tribute to Nasser Iraq reflects the Club's mission to support artists and promote creativity, following the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah. He emphasized Nasser's significant contributions to literature and his consistent efforts in enriching the cultural landscape of the UAE.

During the event, Nasser Iraq expressed his gratitude to the Arab Cultural Club for this recognition, noting that it showcases the Club's commitment to supporting Arab intellectuals. He shared his appreciation for the UAE, where he discovered an environment that nurtured his creativity and allowed him to grow as a writer. When he arrived in the UAE, he had published just two books; now, he leaves with 14 novels and three books on art criticism to his name.

Nasser also described the UAE's cultural scene as lively and ever-changing, constantly engaging with global cultural trends. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to connect with many Emirati thinkers and prominent artists who have greatly influenced the cultural landscape and helped shape poetry and storytelling in the UAE.
