ALECGS hosts the Dean of Spain’s Faculty of Andalusian Studies

Sharjah24: The Arabic Language Educational Centre for Gulf States (ALECGS) in Sharjah received, on Wednesday, His Excellency Dr. Abdul Samad Romero, Dean of the Faculty of Andalusian Studies in Spain, at its headquarters.
The visit included an introduction to ALECGS efforts in serving the Arabic language for non-native speakers and the most important studies in this field.
His Excellency Dr. Abdul Samad Romero was briefed on the centre's work in the field of developing the teaching of the Arabic language for non-native speakers, such as studying terms of reference for teaching the Arabic language to non-native speakers, studying the quality standards document for institutions teaching the Arabic language to non-native speakers, and studying the preparation of Arabic language teachers for non-native speakers in light of contemporary standards.

Touring ALECGS facilities
The visit included an introductory tour of the centre's most important facilities to learn about the efforts and achievements made by ALECGS in serving the Arabic language at the regional educational level.

The guest was accompanied by His Excellency Dr. Issa Al Hammadi, ALECGS Director, who introduced the guest to the centre (being one of the departments of the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States “ABEGS”) in Sharjah. The centre is specialised in teaching and learning the Arabic language and is affiliated with ABEGS. It is headquartered in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. The centre has a legal personality and an independent budget within the Bureau’s budget. ALECGS aims to develop the teaching and learning of the Arabic language on distinguished educational, scientific and professional foundations, while adopting the best technical means and adhering to international quality standards.

Dr. Al Hammadi confirmed the importance of the Arabic language and its position at the Arab and international levels, and moved on to introduce the centre’s goals and achievements, which are supported and sponsored by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
The tour included the halls within the centre, passing by the centre’s library, which includes ALECGS publications and various valuable books, including the publications of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi as well as publications in the field of curricula and methods of teaching the Arabic language. 

The exhibition 
The tour also included the permanent exhibition of the Arabic language at the centre, which includes several corners related to the Arabic language and literature, including a corner of the most famous books in Arabic literature, a corner of the Mu'allaqat of pre-Islamic poetry, a corner of the Arabic language academies and a brief about each academy, in addition to the most famous scholars in the Arabic language.

During the tour of the exhibition, Dr. Al Hammadi explained the history of the Arabic language and literature, which is divided into five eras: the pre-Islamic era, the Islamic era, the Abbasid era, the era of states and emirates, and then the modern era, and the role of literature in preserving Arabic culture and language.

ALECGS achievements

The centre's achievements were presented, including studies, research, programmes, conferences, seminars, forums, training programmes, and all the activities and events that ALECGS organised and participated in implementing at the regional and local levels with local community institutions and relevant authorities in the field of teaching and learning the Arabic language. 

The visit concluded with Dr. Abdul Samad Romero thanking ALECGS for the warm welcome and for the new knowledge it provided about the Arabic language, history, and strategies for teaching and learning it, appreciating the efforts of the centre, which enjoys the support and patronage of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah.
