Sharjah 24: His Excellency Eng. Mohammed bin Taliah, Head of Government Services in the UAE, and his accompanying delegation, visited Sharjah to review the emirate's strategy for developing and hybridising wheat. This includes the creation of the "Sharjah-1" wheat strain, achieved through the first-of-its-kind biotechnology laboratories in the UAE. These labs focus on hybridising wheat and improving its strain, utilising advanced technologies like artificial intelligence and satellite systems for remote control of agricultural operations. These technologies help in managing irrigation systems and measuring water usage, providing daily reports to specialists.

Visit to the wheat farm in Mleiha

The delegation’s visit took place at the wheat farm in Mleiha, where His Excellency was welcomed by His Excellency Dr Eng. Khalifa Musabah Al Tunaiji, Department of Agriculture and Livestock and CEO of the Sharjah Agricultural and Animal Production Corporation, "Iktifa."

Commending achievements and sustainable food security

His Excellency Eng. Mohammed bin Taliah expressed his satisfaction with the significant progress made in wheat development and hybridization. He also highlighted the UAE’s increasing focus on sustainable food security, a priority of the country's leadership.

Dr Eng. Khalifa Musabah Al Tunaiji’s remarks

Dr Eng. Khalifa Musabah Al Tunaiji thanked His Excellency Eng. Mohammed bin Taliah for visiting the Mleiha Wheat Farm. He emphasized that this visit underscored Sharjah’s strategy for wheat cultivation and strain development, which aligns with the visionary directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. This strategy supports sustainable agricultural technologies to ensure high-quality local products and enhances self-sufficiency in critical global commodities. The wheat produced is also noted for its organic quality and the highest protein content in the world.

He further highlighted the collaboration between local and federal departments, which fosters exceptional achievements and aligns efforts to implement comprehensive development plans in agricultural and animal production. This coordinated approach strengthens the UAE's strategic capabilities in producing sustainable and healthy food.
