SEDD delegation visits wheat farm in Mleiha

During the visit
Sharjah 24: Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD), in coordination with the Department of Agriculture and Livestock “DAL”, organised an official visit for number of directors and employees of SEDD to the wheat farm in Mleiha. This visit aimed at reviewing and identifying the wheat cultivation project in Sharjah.
The delegation sightsaw the green areas, got acquainted with the wheat farm, its areas and its integration with agricultural sustainability projects, and learned about Sharjah's experience and strategy in growing wheat at Mleiha farm, which is a step in achieving food security, which will reflect positively on the national and local economy and will open wider horizons for diversifying sources of local income and other economic sectors.

Hamad Ali Abdulla Al Mahmoud, SEDD Chairman, praised the visions and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and the care he pays to community affairs and his concerns to develop green spaces and enhance food security in the emirate.

He pointed to the importance of this expansion of the green area and the development of food resources in accordance with the requirements of agricultural sustainability, and the consolidation of agricultural values and their importance in the development of the economic sectors related to them from the production line and sufficiency. Likely, SEDD Chairman stressed that the wheat farm will contribute to promoting the concept of agriculture in the region.

Furthermore, SEDD Chairman explained that the wheat farm in Sharjah highlights its importance as one of the most significant leading projects that adopts the concept of pioneering sustainable agricultural investment to achieve food security and self-sufficiency in wheat, which covers Sharjah’s needs and the rest of the other emirates in accordance with the highest international specifications and standards. 

On the other hand, Abdul Aziz Omar Al Midfa, Deputy Director of Government Communication Department at SEDD, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Department of Agriculture and Livestock for this cooperation, which reflects the guidance of the wise vision of the leadership whom calls for the importance of projects in achieving comprehensive sustainable development, as well as the passion of both sides to enhance aspirations and continue to build the renaissance and great development of the emirate's economy in a way that enhances its competitiveness and position at the regional and international levels and at the same time achieves quality of life indicators.
