Sharjah24: Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) , in a dialogue session during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, presented several pioneering initiatives aimed at educating support staff on the significance of conserving water and electricity and utilising them properly. One of the prominent initiatives is "Educate Them," which offers educational workshops in three languages (Arabic, English, and Urdu), lasting 45 minutes to explain the importance of resource conservation and practical methods for implementing it at home.
Engineer Reem Al Suwaidi, Acting Head of the Conservation Department at Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority, affirmed that sustainable practices among domestic support staff are essential to the Authority's efforts in promoting conservation culture and safeguarding natural resources in Sharjah. She emphasised that the Authority's efforts target various groups of support staff through organising diverse events such as home conservation workshops, initiatives like "Educate Them," which aim to raise awareness among staff in governmental institutions, schools, clubs, hospitals, and mosques through programmes focused on promoting awareness in workplaces or staff gatherings.

She stressed that these initiatives were implemented as a strategic step towards building long-term awareness that positively impacts resource consumption. She noted that measuring the quantitative impact accurately requires more time, but initial observations and positive reactions from support staff indicate tangible progress in adopting conservation practices. The continuous development of assessment tools is underway to ensure the sustainability of results and enhance their impact.

She indicated that the impact of these initiatives extends beyond economic aspects to improving resource sustainability and reducing carbon emissions associated with high energy consumption. These initiatives demonstrate the potential of domestic support staff to effect positive change if empowered with appropriate tools and knowledge. The success of these initiatives in Sharjah reflects the importance of their continuous development, aiming for greater sustainability and enhancing community awareness of their role in preserving our environment and future.
