Sharjah24: In a bid to enhance collaboration with higher education institutions across the emirate, the Education, Culture, Media, and Youth Affairs Committee of the Sharjah Consultative Council recently visited the Sharjah Academy of Maritime Transport in Khorfakkan with the aim of keeping abreast of the academy's latest programmes and initiatives.

Promoting specialised education for sustainable development

This visit aligns with the committee’s agenda for its second ordinary session of the 11th legislative term, which focuses on fostering the specialised education and training sector following Sharjah’s vision for educational excellence and sustainable growth.

 

The meeting, held yesterday morning, was led by Sheikha Ali Al-Nuqbi, the Chairwoman of the Committee, and included members Kaltham Saif Al-Tenaiji, Sheikha Khalfan Al-Dhaneen Al-Nuqbi, and Yusuf Mohammed Al-Mazrouei, alongside Huda Al-Hamadi, the Committee’s Rapporteur. They were welcomed by Dr. Hashem Abdullah Bin Sarhan Al-Zaabi, Director of the Sharjah Academy of Maritime Transport, and team members.

 

The visit commenced with a guided tour of the academy’s facilities, showcasing specialised laboratories, classrooms, and practical training areas.

 

Advancing maritime education

During their meeting at the academy, Dr. Hashem Al-Zaabi presented a comprehensive overview of the academy's vision and strategic objectives. He underscored its commitment to offering innovative educational programmes in science, technology, and maritime transport that cater to both local and global market needs. The discussions highlighted the importance of launching advanced educational initiatives that promote institutional excellence and enhance the academy's capacity to support the maritime transport sector.

 

The committee emphasised the necessity of adopting modern educational practices to prepare a skilled national workforce in various maritime transport domains. This effort is in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, who supports the academy's mission to produce specialised professionals.

 

Dr. Al-Zaabi also spoke about the academy's initiatives aimed at fostering scientific research and innovation in maritime transport. He noted its strategic partnerships with international universities to exchange knowledge and expertise while striving for academic accreditation to ensure high-quality educational offerings.

 

Sheikha Ali Al-Nuqbi reiterated the importance of strengthening ties between the council and specialised institutions like the Sharjah Academy of Maritime Transport. She applauded their efforts in enhancing research, education, and training infrastructure aligned with global standards. The visit underscored Sharjah's ambition to be a leading hub for higher education and innovation.

 

Committee members acknowledged the academy’s vital role in preparing qualified professionals while emphasising the need for increased research activities and community outreach related to maritime transport. They also discussed organising more events focused on advancing this essential sector to solidify Sharjah's status as a strategic center for science and maritime transport.

 

The visit concluded with a fruitful exchange of ideas aimed at furthering the academy's development and fostering collaboration among all parties involved. The committee expressed gratitude for the warm reception from the academy’s management and reiterated their commitment to promoting sustainable development within the maritime sector for the benefit of both Sharjah and the wider UAE.
