The celebration, which was proposed by world champion Mohammed Al Qaed, a specialist in sports for the disabled in SSC Sports Affairs and Development Department, included several events and competitions in wheelchair basketball, seated volleyball, badminton, boccia, and table tennis, in addition to a fitness challenge and a number of cultural activities.
The celebration was well received by 135 players from Al Thiqa club, Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services club, and Khorfakkan club, the hosting club. It also included a number of wonderful cultural segments.
The celebration was attended by His Excellency Dr. Khalid Omar Al Midfa, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Thiqa Club for the Disabled; His Excellency Abdullah Saleh Al Naqbi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Khorfakkan Club for the Disabled; His Excellency Louay Saeed Allay, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Khorfakkan Club for the Disabled; Abdul Ghafoor Al Raisi, Member of the Board of Directors of Al Thiqa Club; Ali Aboud, Secretary General of Khorfakkan Club for the Disabled; Abdul Aziz Al Hammadi, Chairman of the Technical Affairs Committee at the Club; Abdullah Sabaan, Chairman of the Cultural Committee; Jassim Al Doukhi, Head of the Individual Games Department at the Sports Affairs and Development Department at SSC; and the Paralympic World Champion Mohammed Al Qaed, Specialist in Sports for the Disabled at the Sports Affairs and Development Department at the Council; Games Specialists at the Department Imad Othman, Al Waleed bin Mohammed and Samir George.
Mohammed Obaid Al Hossan, Director of the Sports Affairs and Development Department, stressed that SSC is keen to revive the occasion and celebrate it in appreciation and gratitude for the great role played by disabled athletes in enriching the sports movement locally, and in the international presence of the emirate and the UAE abroad, and thanked the management of Khorfakkan Club for the Disabled for the organisation and hospitality.
