Sharjah 24: In line with strengthening institutional partnerships aimed at achieving a high quality of life and meeting the aspirations of the area's residents, Al Hawami Council, affiliated with Sharjah Districts Affairs Department (SDAD), held an expanded coordination meeting at its headquarters in Khorfakkan.

Challenges and solutions

The meeting included representatives from Khorfakkan Municipality and the Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) to discuss the topic of stray animals in the area and review the most prominent challenges arising from it. The goal was to develop appropriate solutions and mechanisms to mitigate its effects, ensuring public safety and protecting farms, resorts, and private and public property.

The meeting was attended by Al Hawami Council, along with specialists from participating entities. A full agenda was reviewed, focusing primarily on identifying the current challenges and damages caused by these animals. These challenges include the direct dangers to road users, the damage inflicted on farms, and the negative impact on the city's distinctive urban and environmental character.

Importance of community awareness and partnership with residents

The attendees also discussed ways to activate existing oversight mechanisms, legislation, regulations, and systems prohibiting the roaming of animals. They explored ways to strengthen monitoring and intensify joint inspection campaigns in residential neighborhoods and surrounding areas, emphasising the need for a swift and effective mechanism to capture these animals, transfer them to designated enclosures, and apply deterrent measures against owners who fail to comply with care and preservation requirements. At the conclusion of the meeting, the attendees emphasised the vital importance of community awareness and partnership with residents. It was agreed to launch joint awareness campaigns targeting animal owners and farm owners to urge them to assume their legal and social responsibilities.

Al Hawami Council appreciated the rapid response and fruitful cooperation from the Khorfakkan Municipality and EPAA, stressing that maintaining the security and safety of the local environment and protecting citizens' property is a top priority that reflects the wise leadership's vision of promoting stability and social welfare.
