Sharjah24: Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD), in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology “MoIAT”, organized an introductory workshop entitled “Federal Regulations for Energy Demand Management in Industrial Facilities and the Industrial Registry Platform” in Al Durrah Hall at Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
This workshop is organised to highlight the visions and trends that will raise the level of operational excellence in managing energy systems in industrial facilities to reduce consumption and emissions from the industrial sector, which contributes to raising energy efficiency and sustainability in the industrial sector.
The workshop was attended by a number of investors and owners of industrial facilities operating in Sharjah. During the workshop, the enablers and incentives designed to encourage commitment to rationalizing energy consumption and drive positive change in the industrial sector were reviewed, which in turn plays a crucial role in directing industries towards adopting operational efficiency practices for factories.
Likely, the workshop dealt with enhancing the adoption of technological transformation programs in the industrial sector, which would enhance investment attractiveness and competitiveness of industrial companies, and also would reduce energy consumption bills by factories following the best sustainable practices.
In addition, the participants were reviewed about the details of the Federal Regulations for Energy Management in Industrial Facilities, as this regulation is the first of its kind in the industrial sector related to sustainability and supports operational excellence in managing energy systems in industrial companies. Also, the Industrial Registry Platform was reviewed, which is a national platform that collects data on UAE’s industrial sector to support decision-makers and enable data-based incentive programs for the industrial sector.
From her side, Mariam Nasir Al Suwaidi, Deputy Director of Industrial Affairs at SEDD confirmed that the workshop comes within SEDD’s plans to introduce energy management in the industrial sector and move towards more sustainable use of resources, enhance innovation in the field of energy management, and create an integrated and sustainable industrial environment that contributes to achieving the country’s environmental and economic goals. She emphasized that the partnership between the public and private sectors is important to achieve these goals, and it also enhances UAE’s goals to attain sustainability. In addition, such partnership is crucial in stimulating investment attractiveness in the industrial sector locally and internationally.
Al Suwaidi Likely pointed out that building knowledge capabilities of partners in the emirate comes in line with the strategic objectives of the Department, especially in creating a suitable and attractive business environment for local and international investors in the industrial sector, supporting its growth and enhancing its competitiveness regionally and globally. This falls within SEDD’s concerns to enhance confidence in the emirate’s markets and raise awareness of energy systems management, to empower the industrial sector, ensure the sustainability of its development, and contribute to the Department achieving its vision of leading economic development in the emirate.
On the other hand, Eng. Moza Al Nuaimi, Director of Productivity and Demand Management Department at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, pointed out the importance of the Federal Regulations for Managing Energy Demand in Industrial Facilities as a fundamental step towards enhancing the country’s ability to confront energy and climate change challenges, and stimulating green economic growth, by developing a sustainable and energy-efficient industrial sector. It should be noted that The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure confirmed that the regulation will contribute to reducing energy demand by 33% in the industrial sector and improving air quality by 32%, thanks to its contribution to reducing carbon emissions by the equivalent of 63 million tons by 2050.
For her part, Shama Al Ansari, Director of Industrial Empowerment Department at the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology “MoIAT”, confirmed that the National Strategy for Industry and Advanced Technology (300 billion Project) includes many initiatives and programs that support investment attractiveness, growth and competitiveness in the industrial sector in the country. These initiatives and programs included “Make it in the Emirates” program, which is an integrated program to attract investments, manufacture priority products locally, participate in the growth of the industrial sector in UAE, and attract the largest number of local and international industrial investors. The program also aims to redirect the value of purchases to the national economy by granting priority in purchase contracts to entities that are members at the National Value-Added Program.
