A pioneer recognised

During the tour, Al Mahmoud honoured Gulf Industries for Transformation (GCC) – one of the oldest active trade licences in Sharjah – in recognition of its pioneering role and sustained contribution to economic activity. He took the opportunity to learn about the company's history, its beginnings, and the key stages of its growth, viewing its longevity as a reflection of the strength and solidity of Sharjah's business environment.

Al Mahmoud stated that the recognition demonstrates the Sharjah government's commitment to its relationship with the investors and licence holders who have contributed to the local economy's growth. He added that businesses that have endured over time convey a clear message to younger entrepreneurs about the possibilities in Sharjah.

Preserving commercial heritage

"Honouring the emirate's oldest trade licenses reaffirms the importance of preserving our commercial heritage and keeping businesses alive—particularly family-run ones—given how central they are to the national economy and fostering a genuine culture of enterprise," he said.

Al Mahmoud added that SEDD will continue developing its services and rolling out initiatives to support the business sector, empowering investors and boosting the competitiveness of economic activity in line with the emirate's vision of sustainable economic development.

Business community responds

Holders of the honoured licenses expressed pride in the recognition, praising the department's ongoing support for business owners, which they said played a significant role in keeping their operations running and growing over the years.

The honour is part of SEDD's broader efforts to strengthen its partnership with the business community, acknowledge its contributions to the emirate's development journey, and draw attention to the businesses whose staying power has made them a genuine part of Sharjah's economic fabric.
