Sharjah 24: The 11th Kalba Short Plays Festival, organised by the Department of Culture, continued on September 28 with activities aimed at discovering and nurturing theatrical talent. The Cultural Centre in Kalba hosted an open dialogue with this year's featured artist, Yousef Al Kaabi, attended by local and Arab cultural figures.
The discussion, moderated by Dr. Ali Al Shaloubi, highlighted Al Kaabi's contributions to the Khorfakkan Theatre troupe and his reputation as a prominent comedic actor. Al Kaabi expressed gratitude to the Ruler of Sharjah and the Department of Culture for their support of the arts. He shared his early theatre experiences, including his first performance in 1987 and his admiration for the late actor Mohamed Ismail.

The festival showcased several plays, starting with "Good Morning," adapted from the Alvarez Quintero brothers’ work, directed by Jassim Al Tamimi. A subsequent critical symposium praised the director's innovative use of cubes in the set design.

The second play, "The Other Face," directed by Maryam Al-Zarouni, depicted a couple overwhelmed by debt. Egyptian actress Sandra Sameh highlighted the performance's sincerity in her discussion of the show.

The final presentation, "Farewell Song," based on Anton Chekhov's work and directed by Talal Qambar Al Balushi, focused on an aging actor reflecting on his past. Director Omar Al Anzi praised the production’s direction and lighting design.
