Sharjah 24: The Office of the Arab Parliament for the Child (APC) held its meeting in Sharjah. Children’s Rights Committee and Activities and Events Committee held their meetings separately at the headquarters of the Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC).
The meetings held, on Sunday, came on the sidelines of the fourth and final meeting of APC third session, and addressed several topics, including Parliament’s discussion of the most prominent interventions in its fourth meeting on the subject of the social responsibility of the parliamentary member.

The APC Bureau meeting was attended by the Speaker of Parliament, Jenan Al Sharif, First Representative; Hala Jahleel, the Second Deputy; Hebat Allah Al Alami, Head of the Child Rights Committee; Yasmina Mishik, Head of the Activities Committee; Salama Al Tunaiji; and His Excellency Ayman Othman Al Barout, Secretary-General of APC.

The most prominent works of Parliament were discussed during the third session, which continued over two years. Four plenary sessions were held in the Emirate of Sharjah, and included topics on the child’s right to decision-making, a sustainable effort for climate, artificial intelligence through the eyes of Arab children, and the social responsibility of the parliamentarian.

The most prominent workshops and programmes that were presented were discussed, as well as the results of diplomas that were presented in cooperation with the University of Sharjah, and coincided with the efforts of Parliament under the umbrella of the League of Arab States in creating Arab child leaders and qualifying children to serve their countries.
The Activities Committee also held its meeting under the chairmanship of Salama Al Tunaiji and in the presence of Hala Al Toum, Alaa Aouni, Mounira Al Busmait, Yasmine Okasha, Zainab Muhammad, Saud Al Issa, Elias Al Maani, Salim Muhammad, Abdullah Al Mansouri, John Dandan, Sama Wael, Menan Anas, and Haider Suleiman.

During the meeting, programmes and workshops that were implemented and contributed to enhancing the role of members of Parliament were discussed, in addition to the importance of their contribution to their environment, their school, and their community, and to continue their qualifications to serve their countries and enhance their leadership capabilities.

The Activities Committee confirmed that Parliament succeeded in achieving its goals by organising many programmes and workshops, as well as organising a skills diploma in parliamentary qualification, all of which contributed to enhancing the capabilities of Arab children and preparing them for a leadership role in their societies. The Committee also praised the role of Parliament as a platform for innovation and positive interaction between Members of Arab society in order to achieve sustainable development.

The Committee on the Rights of the Child also held its meeting, headed by Yasmine Mishk. The meeting was attended by Muhammad Aziz Al Mansouri, Fatima Ahmed Al Ghad, Sarah Youssef Ahmed, Sayed Ahmed Al Ayashi, Luqman Yazid, Abdulaziz Al Qahtani, Lujain Al Amiri, Nersian Hossam, Saud Al-Mutouteh, Ahmed Tariq Al Faramawi, Taha Omar, and Yamen Khalil.

The focus was on the rights of the child in different contexts, and the role of Parliament in promoting and realising these rights was emphasised. The Committee on the Rights of the Child expressed its satisfaction with the results achieved during the third session, where the focus was on promoting and protecting the rights of the child in various legal and social contexts. The committee praised the efforts made to ensure the realisation of these rights and strengthen their position in the hearts and minds of Arab children.

During the meetings, the importance of the role APC as a platform for dialogue and cooperation between Arab countries was emphasised, to ensure the achievement of a common vision that enhances the rights and status of children in Arab societies.

The attendees stressed that Parliament reflects the hopes and aspirations of Arab childhood in shaping its future in a positive and constructive manner.

At the conclusion of the committees’ work, the Bureau and the two committees extended thanks and appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, and to His Excellency Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, for their continued support of Parliament and strengthening its role in serving Arab children.

Ayman Othman Al Barout spoke about the importance and success of the meetings of the Bureau, the Child Rights Committee and the Activities Committee that were held in the city of Sharjah. Al Barout stressed that meetings played a vital role in promoting constructive dialogue between members and achieving the Parliament’s goals in serving Arab children. 

Al Barout indicated that the Bureau seriously discussed the most prominent works of Parliament during the third session, which included vital topics such as children’s rights in decision-making and the social responsibility of members. He also explained that the Committee on the Rights of the Child has done important work in protecting and promoting children’s rights at all times and in all fields. He presented relevant issues to ensure a decent life for Arab children at all times.

Regarding the Activities Committee, Al Barout indicated that it played a vital role and contributed to organising programmes and workshops that enhance children’s capabilities and prepare them to contribute effectively. 
Al Barout stressed that APC is striving to achieve a common vision among the countries of the Arab world, focusing on enhancing the role of children, protecting and enabling them to participate effectively in Building their future.

In conclusion, Al Barout expressed his deep thanks to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and to His Excellency Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, for their continued support and assistance to APC in its journey towards achieving its goals and enhancing its role in contributing to the creation of child leadership. He concluded that APC should be a platform for children to discuss different issues being a platform for knowledge, expertise and exchange of experiences.
