Sharjah 24: Al Qasimia University (AQU) in Sharjah signed a memorandum of understanding with the Bulgarian Sofia University, with the aim of enhancing scientific and academic cooperation, exchanging educational and research experiences, in addition to organising joint conferences and seminars, teaching the Arabic language to non-native speakers, and contributing to the dissemination of scientific research and academic books between the two universities.
The memorandum was signed by His Excellency Professor Dr. Awad Al Khalaf, Director of Al Qasimia University, and Professor Dr. Georgi Velchev, Director of the University, on behalf of Sofia University, in the presence of officials from the two universities.
The memorandum of understanding stipulated that both universities shall exchange invitations to attend scientific and cultural activities, as well as supervising and discussing university theses.
Professor Dr. Georgi Velchev, Director of Sofia University, toured a number of educational facilities and was briefed on the students halls, and she toured the university library that includes traditional and electronic sources of information.
Professor Dr. Awad Al Khalaf expressed his welcome to the signing of the MoU, stressing the importance of cooperation between international scientific institutions, whereas it has a great impact on developing the scientific research system, developing student exchange programmes, and teaching the Arabic language to non-native speakers. Al Khalaf added that Al Qasimia University’s strategy is one of Its pillars emphasise the consolidation of constructive cooperation aimed at serving the educational process, scientific research, and community service.
In turn, Professor Dr. Georgi Velchev stressed the importance of future cooperation between the two universities in the fields of scientific research and education, as well as achieving fruitful and useful results that benefit students and academics at both universities.
Velchev pointed out the keenness of Sofia University to strengthen joint academic relations, cultural and scientific exchange between students and faculty members, and the exchange of academic scientific materials and publications.
