Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Islamic Affairs Department (SIAD) announced the continuation of its efforts to supply mosque libraries with new publications, reaching more than 30,000 books distributed among libraries in various suburbs of the Emirate, in order to activate the role of libraries and enhance the culture of reading in society.
The department stressed the continuation of its efforts during the holy month of Ramadan to promote and consolidate the culture of reading among various segments of society, as the department organises periodic lessons on the importance of reading for the individual and society.
Librarians also provide mosque visitors with an overview of some of the books available in libraries to encourage the public to read, as libraries contain 60 of the department’s publications, and other publications in the fields of legal sciences, history, the biography of the Prophet, language, family, children, and society.
The mosque libraries project comes within the cultural initiatives aimed at spreading the culture of reading among members of society to raise generations capable of carrying the torch of culture and the renaissance of society, and to be a reference for worshipers and residents of the Emirate, and contribute to activating the role of imams and muezzins in mosques by providing them with the legal sciences that qualify them to carry their duties, raising community awareness and maintaining its cohesion in accordance with the principles of religion.
