Sharjah24: The Sharjah Department of Islamic Affairs continues to implement the Suqya Al Maa (water endowment) project across the emirate’s mosques. The initiative, which provides free drinking water to worshippers and passersby, reflects the values of social solidarity and Islamic endowment culture.

Widespread coverage and regular maintenance

The department currently oversees 1,050 water units—366 outdoor units adjacent to mosques and 684 indoor coolers—regularly maintained by specialised teams to ensure efficiency, especially during Sharjah’s intense summer heat.

Funded by community generosity

Many of these units were funded by generous donors in the emirate. The initiative stands as a testament to the humanitarian spirit of Emiratis, echoing the prophetic saying: “The best form of charity is giving water to drink.”

Commitment to expansion and sustainability

The department is committed to expanding the initiative by increasing its reach and improving the designs to match mosque aesthetics using eco-friendly materials and water-saving systems.

Call for continued support

His Excellency Abdullah Khalifa Al-Sabousi, Chairman of the Department of Islamic Affairs, praised the contributions of donors and urged continued support to sustain this humanitarian project. He highlighted its role in community service and religious awareness, inviting benefactors to contribute via the toll-free number 80017.
