Sharjah 24: The Jiu-Jitsu Championship, jointly organised by the Dubai Sports Council and the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, drew to a close yesterday evening (Monday) at the main hall of the Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex as part of the Nad Al Sheba Sports Tournament.
Players from the Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club emerged victorious in the senior category, with Al Ain Club securing the runner-up position, and Bani Yas Club taking third place.
The championship saw broad participation from both male and female players representing various clubs and academies across the country. They showcased their skills and competitiveness, demonstrating professionalism throughout the event. Particularly during the final day of competitions, players exhibited high-level skills, indicating their preparedness for upcoming continental and international events.
Yousef Abdullah Al Batran, a board member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, commended the productive collaboration between the federation and the Dubai Sports Council in organising the championship as part of the Nad Al Sheba Sports Tournament. He emphasised that the championship serves as an exceptional platform bringing together the country's top Jiu-Jitsu talents, and it has successfully attracted a significant audience, reflecting the federation's efforts to promote the sport's popularity and growth within the community.
Al Batran highlighted the continuous success of Jiu-Jitsu in the country, noting advancements in player development, tournament organisation, and audience engagement. This success contributes to attracting more talent and spreading the sport's values and benefits across various societal groups.
Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Owais, Chairman of Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club, lauded the significant efforts of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation in expanding the sport's reach, both locally and globally. He emphasised the federation's capability to professionally organise numerous tournaments, thereby solidifying the country's esteemed position in the global sports arena.
Al Owais expressed anticipation for the annual championship, emphasizing its importance on the sports calendar, especially during the holy month. He extended congratulations to the Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club champions for their achievement and leadership in the senior category.
