Sharjah24: Sharjah Women Sports players concluded an international training camp in Almaty, Kazakhstan, held from July 5 to 15, 2026, as part of the technical preparation programme for the upcoming sports season. The camp brought together 11 players from the junior and youth categories, representing different clubs and training schools, to raise technical and physical readiness and enhance competitive experience.

The camp featured an intensive training programme that focused on developing basic and advanced Taekwondo skills, improving response speed, concentration, and decision-making under competitive pressure, assessing the technical and physical level of each player, developing individual development plans, and raising awareness of aspects related to sports nutrition, recovery, and injury prevention, all of which contribute to establishing a professional sports lifestyle.

The participation also gave the players the opportunity to interact with different training schools and gain international experience, and to take part in an internal friendly tournament with players from Kazakhstan and Russia, which resulted in winning 11 medals, including three silver and eight bronze, so that the players could translate some of the technical gains they achieved during the camp into practical results within the competitions.

Speaking about the camp, Abdullah Hatem, the technical director of taekwondo at Sharjah Women Sports, said:

"Overseas training camps are an essential part of players' preparation, as they place them in a different training environment and give them the opportunity to interact directly with diverse playing styles. What distinguishes this camp is that it targets players from the age groups, which are the most important stage in building athletic and technical character, according to a well-thought-out, long-term preparation plan. What we have witnessed over the past few days is a clear improvement in players' response speed and their ability to adapt to different playing styles. These technical gains are no less important than the results of the competitions themselves, and they form an important foundation for future events, within a long-term preparation path that aims to build a generation capable of representing the country in continental and international forums, and to move with deliberate steps towards Olympic aspirations."

For her part, Mai Al Ameri, Deputy Director of Sharjah Women Sports and Head of Delegation, confirmed that the camp achieved its goals on both the technical and organisational levels, and added:

"The overseas camps are a key pillar of the players' preparation programme, providing opportunities for international interaction, exchange of experiences, and the application of training outcomes in a different competitive environment. What the players achieved during the camp reflects the extent of the programme's benefits and confirms the importance of continuing to provide such opportunities that contribute to developing performance, enhancing confidence, and raising readiness for upcoming competitions."

The statements made by the players and parents upon the delegation’s arrival in the country reflected the extent of the benefits gained from the camp, both through the training programme and through interaction with different technical schools.

Player Sheikha Al Tunaiji said that participating in the camp was a unique experience, adding: “We entered every training session and every competition carrying the responsibility of representing our clubs and raising the UAE’s name, and we benefited greatly from interacting with players from different training schools, which will give us greater motivation in the upcoming tournaments.”

For her part, the player’s sister, Maria Bader Al-Ansari, expressed her gratitude to the Sharjah Women’s Sports Clubs for the attention and care they provided, emphasising that such opportunities contribute to the development of the players and the refinement of their expertise.

As Alia Nabil Ashour’s father, the player, said: “We are proud of what our daughters have achieved, and we hope to see them as champions representing Sharjah and the UAE in the biggest sporting events.”

Meanwhile, the mother of player Nour Issa Al-Shumaili confirmed that the camp was a valuable experience for the players, adding: “We thank the Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation for this attention, and we hope that this international interaction will motivate them to continue developing and achieving further accomplishments.”

This camp is part of Sharjah Women Sports plan to provide quality training programmes that contribute to developing players and enhancing their readiness to compete in local and international tournaments by expanding opportunities for interaction and for gaining experience in professional training environments.
